Lt. Col. Robert S. “Butch” Rodrigues, 68, of Waimea died July, 8, 2013, at Tripler Army Medical Center on Oahu. Born Dec. 11, 1944, in Honolulu, he was a retired U.S. Army infantry officer, Vietnam veteran and an attorney-at-law in Waimea.
Visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. July 15 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. The Mass begins at 10 a.m. and burial will follow at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. The family requests aloha attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Tove Rodrigues of Waimea; sons, Robert (Carolyn Carter) Rodrigues Jr. of Kona, Michael Rodrigues of Oahu; daughters, Elizabeth (Brian) Rogers of Richmond, Ky., Monica (Bobby) Williams of Oahu; hanai brother, Melvin (Eva Kuhlman) Miranda of Waimea; brother, Michael (Candace) Rodrigues of Oahu; sister, Kathleen (Jessie) Bates of Oahu; 12 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Herbert Cardoza
Herbert “Richard” “Da Bread Man” Cardoza, 78, of Ookala, died July 2, 2013, at North Hawaii Community Hospital.HBorn on December 30, 1934, in Hilo, he was a heavy equipment operator for the State of Hawaii and a rancher; he also was known for making sweet bread, milk bread and mango pickle and was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa and a Hawaii Army National Guard Veteran.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 15 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, where is 6:30 p.m prayer service will be held. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory. Friends may call 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. July 20 for visitation at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa, where a celebration of Mass will be held at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by daughters, Jennifer (Bruce) Silva of Keaau, Rochelle (Jeffery) Silva of Keaau, Michelle (Marshal Andrade) Cardoza of Kona, Lisa (Merasol Hoopii) Cardoza of Ookala, Peggy Cardoza of Ookala and Joann (Joseph) Maximo of Mountain View; sister, Clara Valente of Oahu; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Juan Fernandez
Juan John Fernandez, 71, of Halaula died June 20 at Kohala Hospital. Born Aug. 21, 1941, in Captain Cook, he was a self-employed tax preparer, retired certified hotel administrator, U.S. Army veteran and Konawaena High School graduate. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi, as well as served with numerous organizations.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. July 18 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, where a wake service begins at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. July 19 at the mortuary, where a prayer service begins at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. The family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Polly Fernandez of Halaula; daughters, Pamela (Robert) Taylor of Naalehu, Lori (Tracy) Yanagi of Hilo, Trixy (Chris) Grace of Naalehu, Leilani (Matt) Glodek of New Jersey, Venissa (Ray) Ah Sam of Honolulu, Oahu, Rowena (Boy, II) Lloyd of Honolulu, Oahu, Daniela (David) Araki of Kona; brother, Narcisco (Ruth) Fernandez of Captain Cook; sisters, Fely Padilla of Hilo, Rose Rasay of Hilo, Ruth (George) Aguiar of Hilo, Trini Baybayan of Mountain View; 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sonja Hermanns
Sonja Hermanns, 80, of Kealia died Dec. 27, 2012, at her residence. Born Aug. 16, 1932, in Poland, she was a sales associate at the Grass Shack store in Kealakekua and co-owner of Hale Hana Niu.
Friends may call at 6 p.m. July 19 at Pukaana Congregational Church in Kealia for a memorial service. The family requests casual attire be worn.
She is survived by hanai sons, Thom (Bridget) Breeze of Kealia, Lahaina Haalilio of Kealia; sister, Ella Ingwersen of West Germany; niece, Inge Kleeberg of Germany.

Hanako Kainoa Louis, 94, of Pahala died June 26, 2013, on Oahu. Born in Hilea, Ka’u, she was a retired farmer and a member of the Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 20 at the Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where a Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., followed by urn committal in the church cemetery. The family requests casual attire be worn.
She is survived by sons, Allen (Gloria) Louis of Aiea, Oahu, Ralph (Eleanora) Louis of Pahala, Leroy (Janet) Louis of Kaneohe, Oahu, Ellsworth (Sally) Louis of Pahala; daughter, Patricia Louis of Honolulu; brother, Hideo Furusho of Japan; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Miguel Funes
Miguel “Mike” Funes, 49, of Waikoloa, died June 17 in Honolulu. Born June 8, 1964, in California, he was a roofer and musician.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. July 20 at Anaehoomalu Bay, also known as “A Bay.”
He is survived by his companion, Mona Dailey; daughter, Mikel Funes; sons, Nick Larson, Michael Dean Funes; brothers, Francisco Funes, Carlos Iturralde, Eduardo Funez Olivier; sisters, Yolanda Funez Olivier, Patricia Funez Olivier, Wendy Funez Olivier, Areli Funez Olivier; and one granddaughter.

Maile Thelma Schuwer, 68, of Kailua-Kona died July 2, 2013, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 14, 1944, in Honolulu, she was a retail clerk at the 7-11 and Chevron stores, as well as the co-owner of Kuno’s Hawaii.
Friends may call at 1 p.m. July 20 at the Old Kona Airport Park’s Pavilion No. 4 in Kailua-Kona for a celebration of life. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers are welcome.
